Morgan Creek Project II: Where Art, Water, and Fire Meet Thoughtful Design
Located along the Morgan Creek Golf Course, this project presented a distinctive challenge—and opportunity. The backyard was shallow but wide, requiring a design that felt expansive without overwhelming the space. The homeowners were avid art collectors and wanted their outdoor environment to feel like a curated extension of their interior lifestyle, while still functioning as a welcoming place for entertaining.
The focal point of the landscape is a custom fire-and-water feature designed as a sculptural centerpiece. Rather than a traditional straight element, the feature gently curves through the yard, creating movement and flow. Water spills gracefully from the top, while fire emerges above—an intentional contrast of elements that brings energy and drama to the space.
Wrapping the structure is a custom copper vine sculpture, designed exclusively for this project. Over time, the copper will continue to patina, adding character and depth while reinforcing the idea that this feature is not just functional—but a living piece of art.
Designing with Art at the Center
One of the most personal elements of the project is the pondless waterfall, positioned directly in line with the bedroom’s French doors. Designed specifically for the homeowners’ morning routine, the waterfall provides a calming visual and ambient soundscape that can be enjoyed from bed—bringing nature into the daily rhythm of the home without the maintenance of a traditional pond.
A Morning View Designed for Stillness
Beyond aesthetics, the site had an ongoing drainage issue that needed a durable solution. We incorporated a dry creek bed paired with a French drain system, allowing water to move naturally through the landscape during heavy rains. Rather than hiding the solution, we leaned into it—using stone, texture, and elevation changes to turn a problem area into a visual asset that adds rhythm and structure to the yard.
A stone bridge crosses the creek, paired with poured-in-place concrete stepstones, creating an intuitive and elegant path that guides movement through the space while maintaining accessibility.
Solving Drainage with Purpose and Beauty
Morgan Creek Project II is a study in balance—where art meets engineering, and beauty works hand in hand with performance. Every element was designed with intention, from entertaining spaces to quiet moments of reflection, resulting in a landscape that feels both expressive and effortless.
